About Paul J. Dolkos
Paul J. Dolkos is well known to Model Railroader (MR) readers. He has
published dozens of articles and hundreds of model railroad
photographs over the past 25 years. His legendary Boston & Maine
New Hampshire Division layout has appeared in more than 50 photos,
including 3 covers. It's easy to see why. Paul is a meticulous
researcher with extensive knowledge of railroads. His modeling skills
are world-class. His grasp of color, detail and scale is tenacious. But
it's his artistic sensibility - his eye - that really sets him apart. When
Paul composes and models a scene, it’s art.
Paul began working on Barrett in 1992, completing the river scene in
time for the December 1995 MR, which featured Paul's layout on the
cover. The buildings in the Barrett yard were built in 2000, and more of
Paul's Barrett photos appeared in Model Railroad Planning 2002. In
all, Paul's town of Barrett has appeared in MR and other Kalmbach
publications more than ten times.
In August 2008, in order to pursue other railroad interests, Paul sold
his layout to fellow B&M modeler Rob Thoms, who has restored Barrett
as a free-standing fully-functional layout section.
